Jazz Lesson – Practice Plan Video Series Part 6: The Importance of Listening and Learning Jazz

In this jazz lesson video series we are talking about how to put together you jazz practice plan, AKA your jazz practice routine.

In this video we talk about listening, eartraining and the aural imagination. Listening to and learning from all the great jazz musicians who came before us is one of the most important things we can do as students of jazz.

Learning jazz should not be a mechanical, theoretical or mathematical process. Those elements exist. But jazz (and music in general is the art form of the ear. If you can hear it, you can play it.

This video series deals with ‘big picture’ stuff. There are thousands and thousands of jazz music education videos on that teach all the details – the chord scales, the theory, the licks, the concepts, etc.

My hope is that these videos and my course will help people to achieve better results through better practice habits, techniques and strategies and by understanding the big picture process of learning jazz.
