Jazz Improvisation Tips: Part 1 – The Great Balancing Act

In this video we will explore one of the biggest mistakes made by aspiring jazz musicians. It is so important for the student of jazz to include listening, eartraining, playing sessions, attending gigs and so on in to their daily practice activities.

This obviously makes no difference whether you play jazz guitar, saxophone, piano or whatever instrument. The process is the same.

The great jazz improvisation masters that came before us did not learn to play the music at such a high level by locking themselves in a practice room with a method book about chord scales.

They listened, studied and absorbed the great jazz musicians. They played session with other cats and they attended other people’s gigs.

They were masters of the great balancing act. Enjoy!
